The Instructors for the August 20-22 course are Robert McDonald, Q.E.P. with Versar and James Courchaine of Brown and Caldwell.James Courchaine - Brown and Caldwell - Boston, MAJames has dedicated more than 30 years to training in water and wastewater management, operation, and maintenance services.James holds water and wastewater certificates and was a Utility Director, Manager and Superintendent in three different communities in Massachusetts, in addition to managing the MADEP Infiltration/Inflow program.His career, which began with early experience in all fundamentals of laying and repairing water and sewer pipe, rapidly progressed into all aspects of water distribution and wastewater collection system construction, operation and maintenance, and safety training.He has not only continually extended his own expertise in wastewater collection systems, but has contributed to advancing knowledge and professionalism in his field through numerous educational efforts.These efforts have demonstrated his zealous dedication to the welfare of his fellow operators.Having developed basic and advanced courses in the management, operation, and maintenance of wastewater collection systems, he began teaching at the University of Lowell, MA, Continuing Education Program from 1981 through 1992.James has also provided technical instruction to a multitude of wastewater collection system personnel from all professional levels throughout the United States during the past 20 years.He was also instrumental in establishing a voluntary certification program for wastewater collection system operators in New England.During the past 23 years he has served 12 years as chair of the certification committee, which to date has successfully certified over 3,400 operators.To assist operators in learning the essentials of wastewater collection systems, he also co-authored a "Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification Study Book" in 1982, and a revised addition in 2001.In addition, in 1991 he was the author of the "Safety" chapter for MOP-7 WEF.Currently, James is a Vice President of Infrastructure Services in the Business Consulting Practice at Brown and Caldwell, Inc.HOTEL INFORMATION Holiday Inn Brownstone1707 Hillsborough StreetRaleigh, NC 27605919-828-0811

He assisted with the development of the first Capacity, Management, Operations, and Maintenance (CMOM) guidelines as well as authored the Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification Studybook. Mr. Courchaine developed an innovative assessment matrix and structural framework for utility operations evaluation and improvement and is recognized as a subject matter expert at the national level.
