R.J. Sundstrom and G.D. Schultz G. D. Schultz, D. B. Rose, C. H. West, and J. P. Gray, "Executable Description and Validation of SNA," IEEE Transactions on Communications, Vol. Gary D. Schultz joined IBM in 1965. He participated in the programming, documentation, and design of BSC products and in the formal, sequence description of the BSC architecture. After a two-year educational leave, during which he designed a time-sharing system (CHAT) that is still in daily use at the University of North Carolina, he rejoined IBM in 1970 as a research staff member in a Raleigh research group. He did mathematical modelling of buffering techniques and worked on some cooperative research/development projects. In 1972 he joined SCD's Communication Systems Architecture and since 1973 has been working on SNA; he is currently the editor of the SNA Format and Protocol Reference Manual. He received a B.S. in statistics from the University of Chicago and an M.S. in computer science from UNC at Chapel Hill. He is a member of AAAS.
