Toronto, 1977) came late to music, having first directed himself towards the sciences.Evan has just been accepted on a full fellowship to the University of Michigan's PhD program in Composition and Music Theory, which he will begin in the fall of 2008.Evan will be participating in Arraymusic's 2008 Young Composers' Workshop, and his work Here and Now (2007) will be performed at the Music 08 Festival in Cincinnati, where he will also participate in masterclasses with Steve Reich, one of his foremost influences.Evan has received numerous commissions for a variety of media including choreographed solo electric cello with pre-recorded acoustic cello ensemble for Merging (2007), and fusion group for the soundtrack for the documentary short "A Heard of Poets" (2007).In 2006, his first orchestral work, Nuit, was selected for the Windsor Symphony Orchestra's Composer/Conductor workshop as part of the Windsor Canadian Music Festival.Evan's works have been played in New York, Montreal, Ottawa, Québec City, and Windsor.He has been featured on CBC Radio One in several interviews and a piece on Merging, and his music has been broadcast on Radio Two.A passionate advocate for contemporary music, Evan is also the founding president of ONMC-CMNO (Ottawa New Music Creators/Créateurs de musique nouvelle de l'Outaouais), a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing the development of a sustainable infrastructure for new music creation in the National Capital region.He has taught theory and composition at both the University of Ottawa and Carleton University and works as a freelance writer for the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada and Centrediscs, for whom he wrote the liner notes for Brian Current's Juno-nominated CD, This Isn't Silence.Evan spends what free time he has reading up on cognitive psychology, playing trumpet in a lounge band, writing grant applications, and living life's adventures with his spouse, Valerie, and their two cats.May 2008Visit Evan Ware's website.
