Donald Paul Rhodes
Donald Paul Rhodes Donald (Don) Paul Rhodes, 52, of Excelsior, Minnesota, died Saturday, November 29 at home after an eighteen-month battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Don was born June 15, 1963 in Niagara Falls, New York to Bruce and Mary Rhodes. Don played football and ran track at Greece Athena High School and graduated in 1981. He attended Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island earning a BA in Computer Science and Entrepreneurial Business in 1986. He then moved to Chicago, IL where he earned an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business. Don enjoyed the creativity involved in new product innovation and over the years worked as a marketing executive for several packaged goods companies, including Nabisco, Campbell’s, ConAgra, Schwan’s, and most recently Tyson Foods. Some of Don’s closest friends are connections made through his professional life. In his free time, Don loved to boat on Lake Minnetonka with his family and friends. The perfect day involved his girls, good tunes, cold beer and a beautiful body of water. Don spent numerous hours on the sidelines cheering on his daughters as they played soccer, basketball and volleyball. He also enjoyed many concerts listening to the girls perform with their cellos. He built many strong friendships with coaches and other parents on the benches and fields. Don’s life changed drastically over the past eighteen months. Days spent at Open Circle Adult Day Center in Hopkins, and in and out of a variety of medical establishments, brought many new people into Don’s life. A number of strong friendships have resulted and for that we are so very grateful. Whether you lent a smile, sat with Don, prepared a meal, shoveled the driveway, drove carpool, listened to one of us, or all of the above; thank you. In lieu of flowers, memorials are being accepted by the Don Rhodes Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo Bank. Don was preceded in death by his father-in-law Gerald (Gary) Grow.
