Dean Giannini served as Dean and Rector of Christ Church Cathedral Indianapolis 1990-2005.
He is the author of numerous popular and scholarly theological articles, and has lectured internationally and taught as a visiting professor at numerous institutions of higher learning. An active national Episcopal Church leader, he serves on the board of trustees of the Episcopal Church's General Theological Seminary (and was formerly chair); a member of the North American Deans' Association; and a member/former chair of the Advisory Committee to the Anglican Observer at the United Nations. Dean Giannini was born in New York and moved to Winter Park, Florida as a child. He earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee and his Master's in Divinity from New York's General Theological Seminary. After serving parishes in Sarasota and Miami he and his family moved to St. Andrews, Scotland, where he earned a Ph.D. in Christian Ethics. From 1976 to 1981 he was Director of the Episcopal University Center at the University of South Florida, Tampa, and adjunct professor of religion. In 1981 he became Dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Peter in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1986 he was called to be Dean of the School of Theology of the University of the South. The Very Reverend Robert Giannini is Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis, Indiana, and chairman of the board of General Theological Seminary in New York City.

2001: Dean Giannini, in wide demand as a lecturer and preacher, preaches at Washington National Cathedral and at other locations, and is named chairman of the board of trustees of General Theological Seminary.
2004: Dean and Rector Robert Giannini announces he will retire in 2005. 2005: Dean and Rector Robert Giannini retires.

Dean Giannini was born in New York City and moved to Florida as a child.He received a B.A. from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee; an M. Div. from the General Theological Seminary, New York; and a Ph.D. from St. Andrews University, Scotland.He has served in parishes in Sarasota and Miami; as Episcopal Chaplain at the University of South Florida; Dean of the Episcopal Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Florida; Dean of the School of Theology at the University of the South; and for fifteen years as Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis. He has taught at St. Andrews University, The University of South Florida, The University of the South, The General Theological Seminary; The University of Indianapolis; and Christian Theological Seminary.He is the author of both scholarly and popular articles and reviews. He has served on the Board of Trustees of The General Theological Seminary and as its chair for five years; on the Board of Trustees for the Anglican Observer to the United Nations; the General Board of Examining Chaplains for the Episcopal Church; and the Episcopal Church's Commission on Ecumenical Relations.He also serves on the Board of the Fine Arts Society of Indianapolis. He is married to Jo Ann, and has two daughters, both of whom live in Indianapolis.
