David Schirmer, 87David Schirmer David W. Schirmer, 87, of Bainbridge Island died May 26 on Bainbridge Island. He was born in El Dorado, Kan., to Herman and Mary (Brown) Schirmer.After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he served in the Army Air Corps as a B-17 pilot and returned home in 1944. He earned a degree from the University of Washington and worked for Pacific Northern Airlines.After a distinguished career, he retired in 1978 as a DC-10 captain with Western Airlines. Surviving are his wife of 54 years; a daughter, Carol; three sons, David, Michael and his wife, Lisa, Richard and his wife, Julie; five grandsons, Andrew, Nathan, Daniel, Nicholas, Alex and Jonathan; and brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Lois, Bill and Ellen and Donald and Harriet. Memorial service: 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, Bainbridge Island, where Mr. Schirmer was an elder for many years.Arrangements: Kass Funeral Home.
