Former UTTC Fitness Trainer Dan Molnar and his wife Anna are now fully acclimated to life in the southern hemisphere.
The couple moved to New Zealand early in the year to pursue his passion as a professional triathlete. Recently the Molnars hiked the rocky terrain of Mt. Ngauruhoe, the site of fictional Mt. Doom in the "Lord of the Rings" saga. Their 12 mile excursion crossed a volcanic plateau, offering "amazing views that I never thought I would see before signing up for this trip," Dan wrote describing the outing. The volcano's last eruption was in 2012, he said, and some of the vents still release gasses, making "it look like clouds are forming and spouting right out of the mountain. Head Coach - Daniel Molnar
Coach Daniel Molnar is originally from Hungary. Early on he found that athletics can be used as a way to emerge and eventually succeed in his academics. Upon receiving athletic scholarship in the USA he continued his education that led him a Bachelors in Science in Exercise Science degree from Dickinson State University. While in college he was known to be very competitive from 800m all the way to marathon in which he was a 2-time national championship qualifier. His competitiveness post-collegiately drove him to run more than what his body was able to maintain and suffered an injury that required surgery. Debating on his future he sided with triathlons where he could stay competitive. After learning how to bike and swim properly he has become an accomplished off-road triathlete. He won international championship age-group events and he qualified for multiple world championship races where Molnar represented the USA and his "new" hometown of Bismarck, ND. His main goal as an athlete is become a professional triathlete that was temporarily sidelined by a recent bike-car accident where he suffered multiple bone fractures and collapsed lungs. Molnar is a third year cross country head coach for the Thunderbirds. He states he will be an accomplished coach when native american athletes will seek to run for United Tribes and the best of them will bring fame and medals back from championship events. He leads by example and he never settles for mediocre performance. Every runner who is motivated enough can accomplish more than what they previously thought by adhering to a structured and smart training program. "He was clearly dissatisfied with his performance," said Dan Molnar, United Tribes Cross Country coach.
On the otherwise fast course, a windy day caused runners to suffer more than what they initially thought they would, said Molnar. "We knew the pace would be fast and Wyatt started off conservatively," said Molnar. The field moved like an elastic band, according to Molnar, bunching at the turns and stretching-out over the straight sections. Runners from Iowa Central and Central Arizona College led throughout. "Wyatt stayed strong but his lack of experience in championship races played a role in that he ran below his true potential," said Molnar. The NJCAA is becoming as competitive as the NAIA or NCAA, Molnar observed. Madplume showed significant improvement from the outset of practice in August, Molnar said. "Wyatt stayed a little back, just off the lead pack," said Molnar. "He shows the dedication and talent to become a very good runner," said Molnar. "We can't wait to see how he does in the track season," said Molnar.
