Her elementary school band director recognized her talent and encouraged her to learn clarinet, saxophone and eventually, the bassoon which she plays professionally with orchestras such as the NC Symphony, Long Bay Symphony and many chamber groups. Before moving to NC in May 2012 she played with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra (CT) for twenty-three years and toured/performed with Andrea Bocelli, Luciano Pavarotti, The Three Irish Tenors, Joni Mitchell, Marvin Hamlisch and many others. In addition to her bassoon career, Ms. Martens has always continued studying and teaching piano. She has experience teaching traditional, Suzuki and the Diamond Piano Methods. She has worked as an early childhood music educator, a piano accompanist for school choral concerts and performed as a pianist in nursing homes. Cyndy received a Bachelor of Music Education from Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music and a Master of Music in performance from New England Conservatory of Music, Boston, Massachusetts.
