Jaipur Polo

The Jaipur Polo and Riding Club is one such polo resort facility, which was set up by Colonel K.S. Garcha, one of India's foremost polo players, as well as past coach for the Indian National polo team.
Colonel Garcha captained the Indian Polo Team on several occasions and was awarded the coveted Arjuna Award, India's highest accolade for outstanding sportsmen. Col. Garcha has played and represented india from the 70's to late 90's. He has won the 'Open India' championship for a record 13th times.

“They are young, energetic, dynamic and good competition to their seniors in the game,” says Colonel K.S. Garcha, founder of the Jaipur Riding and Polo Club.
Garcha has been playing polo since 1963 and coached the Indian teams that made it to the World Cup finals in 1995 and 2000. Says Garcha: “Kapoor is doing very well for his age with a +1 handicap and he’s a very graceful player.” The army also provides for transportation and maintenance,” says Colonel Garcha. Garcha says it costs about Rs 10,000 a month to maintain a horse. “Players generally get their horses from racecourses in Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Hyderabad, Bangalore or import them from Argentina, Australia or New Zealand,” he says.

A retired army officer, he has been one of India's foremost players with a handicap of five goals and has captained the Indian polo team on a number of occasions. A recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award, India's highest national award for outstanding sportsmen, he was previously the National Coach for the Indian polo team. Colonel Garcha's love affair with polo started when he joined the Indian Military Academy in Dehradoon. It was there that he started playing polo and became a captain for both the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy. In 1966 June, Colonel Garcha was made 2nd Lt Colonel and was commissioned into the 61st Cavalry, which is the most elite regiment in the Indian Army and the only mounted cavalry in the world. Colonel Garcha has played in more than 20 countries, including Australia, England, Germany, France, Italy, Argentina, Canada, Mexico, and Malta. He has played individually with the England Team every summer for 14 years. He counts royalty such as England's Prince Charles among his polo team mates.

He captained the Indian Polo Team on a number of occasions and was awarded the coveted Arjuna Award, India's highest national award for outstanding sportsmen. Apart from being an outstanding polo player, he is also a coach of the highest caliber and brings all his experience to bear in all equestrian activities of the facility. At present, he is the National Coach for Polo.
