Dr Camilla Thorling
Dr Camilla Thorling is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Queensland's School of Medicine, based in the Translational Research Institute. She received her PhD at the University of South Australia in 2014 with the title "The use of multiphoton microscopy in the study of transmembrane drug transport in hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury" under the supervision of Professor Michael Roberts. She has a background in pharmacy, having graduated with a Master of Pharmacy from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2008. Dr Thorling's research interests include the use of in vivo imaging to study drug distribution, metabolism and excretion in the liver, with the ultimate goal of establishing minimally invasive imaging techniques to diagnose liver disease. Using multiphoton and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy, she has characterized early liver damage associated with hepatic ischemia reperfusion and steatosis. Recently, Dr Thorling has studied the use of infrared thermography in detecting changes in liver temperature in liver disease and she is now embarking on a project to investigate the application of photoacoustic imaging in detecting changes in pharmacokinetics of indocyanine green in liver fibrosis. Dr Thorling's research has resulted in the publication of 15 journal articles, 3 book chapters and 1 refereed abstract.
