Buies Creek, NC. - The Campbell University wrestling program has added C.C. Fisher to their coaching staff, announced today by head coach Joe Boardwine.
"Ultimately we felt that C.C. gives our athletes and the overall program the skills and experiences we need to keep making forward progress toward producing NCAA Champions, All-Americans and student-athletes of high character." Fisher, a native of Durham, N.C., joins the Campbell staff after operating the very successful wrestling club and camp system, C.C. Fisher Wrestling. The club conducts wrestling camps and clinics in California, North Carolina and other parts of the US. Over the last 10 years through his club, Coach Fisher has produced 28 State Champions, 48 state finalists, 79 state placers, four NHSCA National Champions, and three Junior Dave Schultz Award winners. "I would like to thank the Campbell Athletics Department and Coach Joe Boardwine for the opportunity to coach at Campbell University," Fisher said. A former national and international competitor in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman, Fisher placed fourth in the World and Olympic Team Trials in 2002, 2008 and again in 2009 at 60kg and 66kg. "I see Fisher heading up our Freestyle and Greco-Roman training programs for developing University, FILA Junior and Senior-level Champions in the International styles, building a strong local wrestling club, and developing a (USA Wrestling) Regional Training Center in our new wrestling facility here at Campbell University," Coach Boardwine commented. Fisher also has successful coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level, having served as an assistant coach at Duke, Iowa State and UNC-Greensboro. Fisher got his coaching start at Duke University in his native Durham, N.C. At Duke, he assisted in all aspects of the program and oversaw the budget, recruiting and marketing of wrestling events. While at Iowa State, Fisher coached on the Cyclones staff under legendary two-time USA Olympic Head Coach Bobby Douglas. Fisher assisted in coaching the program to the 2000 National Dual Team Championship and a runner-up finish at the NCAA and Big-12 Championship tournaments. He was the head assistant coach at Greensboro in 2006-07, focusing on recruiting and training the athletes. As a team, Greensboro finished as the 2007 Southern Conference Tournament runner-up. Appointed by USA Wrestling to the position of FILA Cadet National Team Coach in 2005, he oversaw the FILA Cadet team as they prepared for and competed in the Brandenburg Cup Grand Prix in Germany. Fisher coached one champion, two bronze medalists and the tournament's Most Valuable Wrestler at the FILA Cadet event. From a recruiting standpoint, Fisher brings both a local and national network that will assist the Fighting Camels' recruiting efforts. He won a N.C. high school state championship for Riverside H.S. in Durham, and moved on to wrestle at the University of North Carolina. He graduated from UNC in 1998 with a degree in history. During his time with the Tar Heels, he qualified for the NCAA Tournament twice, and was also an ACC individual champion and selected the ACC Tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler.
