Guthrie council fires city manager for 'cause' - Guthrie News Leader

Guthrie City Council members came out of a nearly two-hour executive session Tuesday evening and fired City Manager Bruce Johnson.
At 8:24 p.m., council members went behind closed doors to consider a number of heavy personnel issues including contracts for the city attorney, city judge, alternate city judge, city manager, firefighters and police officers. All were approved unanimously. Then motion was made asking that Johnson's be terminated for cause and breach of contract. Councilman Brian Bothroyd, who verbally jousted with Johnson over his handling of the budget during a recent council meeting, was quick to second the motion. Mayor Steve Gentling, John Wood, Ed Wood, Jeff Taylor, Bothroyd and Sharyl Padgett voted to dismiss Johnson. Johnson left after discussing turning in keys with Gentling. Johnson had a one-year contract on an at-will basis with the city and could be terminated at any time, Shadid said. Further contract details were not immediately available. Johnson was hired just over a year ago in July. He last served as a city manager with Grove. He resigned from that position on Oct. 9, 2012 after taking the position in July 2007. Before taking the Guthrie job, he was a solutions consultant for OneSOURCE Managed Services, according to his LinkedIn profile. Before Grove, he was the assistant city manager for Bartlesville, city manager for Dewey and assistant city manager for Mexico, Mo. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1999.
