Over the past 30 years, Bruce Dean has successfully represented the interests of more than 500,000 Louisiana citizens in class actions and individual lawsuits arising from automobile accidents, chemical releases, commercial disputes, drownings, damage to residential property, railroad worker accidents, tobacco use, unsafe prescription drugs, and other defective products.
Mr. Dean has been a lead plaintiffs' counsel, lead writer and/or court-appointed plaintiffs' counsel in cases which have resulted in settlements and judgments totaling more than $939 million. He has been named as one of Louisiana's top appellate attorneys in the Thomson Reuters Louisiana Super Lawyers publication (2008 to 2016), and the Super Lawyers Business Edition publication (2011 to present). Only five percent of lawyers are honored in the Super Lawyers publications, based on the nominations of other attorneys. Mr. Dean has been chosen as one of the "Top Attorneys in Louisiana" by Louisiana Life magazine and St. Charles Avenue magazine, in the field of appellate law, for the past six years (2012 to present). He was also selected as one of the "Top Rated Lawyers in Appellate Law" in the nation by American Lawyer Media's The American Lawyer magazine and Corporate Counsel magazine, in 2013. In 2005, the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice honored Mr. Dean as a Trial Lawyer of the Year Finalist. Supported by the evaluations of other Louisiana lawyers, he has received the highest ("AV Preeminent") rating from Martindale-Hubbell for legal ability and adherence to the professional standards of ethics. Mr. Dean has been one of the lead writers and/or a court-appointed Plaintiffs' Committee member, in several prominent Louisiana and national cases including: In one of the larger wrongful death settlements for a Louisiana resident, Mr. Dean represented a minor child who received a $7 million settlement for the death of a single parent, the child's mother. He has also served as local appellate counsel for the governments of Mexico (the United Mexican States), Honduras, Nicaragua, and the Republic of Guatemala. Mr. Dean is a long-time member of the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America) and the Louisiana Association for Justice (LAJ) (formerly the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association), and served as chairman of the LAJ's Amicus Curiae Committee from 2007 to 2012, and as a member from 2007 to the present. He was a contributing researcher for a treatise on statutes of limitations and prescription and has lectured on evidence, punitive damages, motion practice and appellate issues.
