Littleton Assistant City Attorney Brad Bailey has been notified by the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) that he will receive the IMLA Amicus Service Award at the organization's mid-year seminar in Washington, D.C.
April 14. "This award is a new distinction, and seeks to recognize lawyers who have been actively involved in legal advocacy for and on behalf of local governments and IMLA, and who have done exemplary work to protect and advance local government interests," according to IMLA Associate Council Devala Janardan. IMLA is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the interests and education of local government lawyers. IMLA champions the development of fair and realistic legal solutions, and assists members on the vast and cutting edge legal issues facing local governments today. Bailey authored amicus briefs on behalf of IMLA before the Supreme Court of the United States in Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzales and before the Colorado Supreme Court in Town of Foxfield v. Archdiocese of Denver. He has also authored amicus briefs on behalf of Littleton before the Colorado Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court in Barber v. Ritter. Bailey is a member of the Amicus Committee of the Colorado Municipal League. Bailey is currently president of the Colorado Municipal Attorneys Association. The organization named him Assistant City Attorney of the Year in 2004. Bailey has worked for the City of Littleton since 1999. His duties include advising city council, drafting municipal ordinances, and providing day-to-day legal advice to all departments of the city. Bailey earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Colorado State University. He received his juris doctorate from Gonzaga University in 1983.

Littleton Assistant City Attorney Brad Bailey was elected vice president of the Colorado Municipal Attorney's Association at the group's annual meeting June 23.
After serving the one-year term, Bailey will assume the presidency of the organization on July 1, 2007. Bailey has worked for the City of Littleton since 1999.
