Dr. Tom Harris, health officer for Floyd County, and Bill Briscoe, assistant to the superintendent for administration and operations for the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corp., said those three schools were chosen due to the large percentage of students who have tested positive for the H1N1 flu at those locations.
"A week ago we told parents and they received consent forms in the mail," Briscoe said. Briscoe also said he called parents at all three schools and placed information on the school corporation's Web site. "A lot of parents want to come with their students when they are vaccinated and we understand that," Briscoe said. Briscoe said attendance throughout the school corporation has been around 95 percent. He said two or three weeks ago, Pine View Elementary School had a large amount of absentees, but that is no longer the case.
