Pennsylvani Speaker Information

Ben Nolt (Driving) - Ben has long been a student of the horse.Throughout his career in the equine industry he has enjoyed all aspects of the sport from the training pen, on the trail and in the show ring on a horse or behind the microphone.Since becoming professionally trained as a riding instructor and certified trainer in the late 1960s Ben has enjoyed helping people become "hooked on horses!"Knowing that young people are the future of the industry Ben has been active as a youth leader in 4-H and Pony Club, an active Board member of many local, state and national equine organizations and founding member of the Pennsylvania Equine Council.Ben and his wife Shirley are the co-founders of the Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association (CATRA), now in its 20th year, offering a quality therapeutic riding and driving program to the capital area of Pennsylvania. Ben believes in having fun, no mater what you are doing, but especially with horses - and the most fun in his opinion is driving! An avid pleasure driver for over 40 years he incorporates the techniques of many famous trainers and applies them to the situation at hand - in this case "Starting a Horse in Harness."He says, "You've got to start somewhere!"
