Father Benjamin Berinti, Society of the Precious Blood
Father Berinti, D.Min., first felt a calling to the priesthood at age 5 and from that time on he never seriously considered anything else. At age 13 he entered high school seminary in Canton, Ohio, and was ordained June 22, 1985, at the Chapel of the Assumption at the St. Charles Center, Carthagena, Ohio, by Bishop James Garland. "The most fulfilling part of priesthood is being able to share in the heart of people's lives, their joys and sorrow. Because of who we are and what we represent, people welcome us into the sacred parts of their life story and that's very humbling," Father Berinti said. During his 25 years of priesthood, he has served as professor and chaplain on two college campuses, and served as pastor of two Diocese of Orlando parishes: St. Andrew and Church of the Nativity. Now he has embarked on what he calls his third phase of life as member of the pastoral staff of the San Pedro Spiritual Development Center. "I've come to see myself as a teacher at heart. I've been given the opportunity to live that in a number of ways," he said. In his current position he leads retreats, missions and sacramental catechesis workshops both at San Pedro and at parishes throughout the diocese. During this Year for Priests, he has noticed increased support and encouragement from people all around the diocese. "That has been very affirming," he said.
