Barrie Tan, Ph. D., President of American River Nutrition, Inc.
Dr. Barrie Tan earned his doctorate degree in Analytical Biochemistry at the University of Otago, New Zealand and he continued his research and post-doctorate work at Auburn University in Alabama. He served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the Chemistry & Food Sciences Departments, authoring over 40 archival journal and technical papers. In 1998 he founded American River Nutrition, Inc. Dr. Tan is one of the pioneering researchers responsible for the classification of Tocotrienols as a distinct class of nutrients. His research has focused on how Tocotrienols relate to the more commonly recognized vitamin E compounds known as Tocopherols. His findings have concluded that Tocotrienols actually have 50 times the antioxidant capacity of Tocopherols. This discovery led Dr. Tan to develop Tocotrienol ingredients into dietary supplements with great phyto-nutrient value and rich in antioxidants. Dr. Tan continues his research into phyto-nutrients, and in particular Tocotrienols, and their impact and effect on cardiovascular disease, diabetes, atherosclerosis, cancer, myopathy and sarcopenia and cholesterol.

Dr. Barrie Tan
Dr. Barrie Tan earned his bachelors degree in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He later became a professor of Chemistry and Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Dr. Tan was the first to introduce the benefits of tocotrienols to the nutraceutical industry after he discovered all three sources of tocotrienols (palm, rice, and annatto). In 1998, he founded American River Nutrition, Inc. and developed the first ever tocopherol-free tocotrienol product derived from annatto beans. His research expertise include lipid-soluble materials such as tocotrienols, tocopherols, omega 3s, CoQ10, carotenoids, and cholesterol. Today, Dr. Tan continues to be the world's leading expert in tocotrienols. The focus of research is phytonutrients that have an impact on chronic and degenerative diseases. He has published numerous articles. Dr. Tan was recently elected to be the Senior Editor of the second edition of the book Tocotrienols: Vitamin E Beyond Tocopherols. Dr. Tan also serves on Kyani's Scientific Advisory Board.
