3 Ergonomic Upfits to Combat Work-Related Injuries

"While it's not a utility fleet, the concerns are the same," said Anton Griessner, Maxon's vice president of marketing and business development.
"It's about the safe handling of loads and avoiding having the operator lifting heavy things." Of course, the liftgate itself can bring its own challenges, with the worker trying to maneuver the heavy gate into position, often from the ground. Maxon's latest solution allows the worker to raise the lift about halfway up so that it can then be folded in. "When you manipulate the liftgate, you can do it at an angle, which is as efficient and ergonomic as possible and at the level that offers the best leverage," Griessner said. "You have to really explain what you do and how you do it," Griessner said.

How to Select the Right Liftgate | Action Fabrication and Truck Equipment

When looking at bed height, consider both laden (fully loaded) and unladen (empty) bed height because "you're losing two to three inches when the suspension gives in under the weight," advised Anton Griessner, vice president of marketing & business development for MAXON Lift Corp.

Traditional beverage delivery uses side-bay trucks or trailers, or a walk ramp at the rear of the vehicle, points out Anton Griessner, vice president of marketing & business development, Maxon.
"The industry as a whole has migrated to palletized loading from the rear of the truck or trailer usually at a dock facility and distributing with a liftgate," he says. Pallet deliveries require a large capacity lift with large platform. "Electric pallet jacks are increasing in popularity because they decrease the amount of effort needed to move heavy loads. ELPs are heavier and larger than standard manual pallet jacks, therefore customers with liftgates need larger platforms and heavier capacities to handle the increase in weight and size of ELPs," he notes. Because of this change in the delivery model, "the liftgate has become a crucial tool that makes or breaks the efficiency of a beverage delivery fleet," Griessner says.
