Rethinking AIDS Related Articles: The AIDS Controversy

Channel 4's Anna Garcia has this woman's extraordinary and, yes, controversial story.
Anna Garcia: The sounds of a normal family, living in a comfortable home in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Garcia: That was nine years ago. Garcia: Maggiore will take any opportunity to spread her message. Garcia: Her book, What If Everything You Thought You Knew About AIDS Was Wrong?, has sold 28,000 copies, including editions in German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. In it, she outlines her research: why she thinks HIV tests are meaningless, and why she doesn't buy into the HIV equals AIDS equals death paradigm. Her theories are resonating among many in the audience at this concert, called "Rock the AIDS Establishment." Garcia: The Centers for Disease Control call this alternative AIDS viewpoint a "hoax" and a "rumor. Garcia: Maggiore lives the lifestyle she preaches. Her son was conceived naturally, and she gave birth without drugs routinely given to prevent transmission of the AIDS virus. Garcia: Her husband, Robin Scovill, supported Maggiore's decision 100 percent. Garcia: While this approach is considered controversial, this family says it works for them. Garcia: Anna Garcia, Channel 4 News.

Squashing an English and Philosophy degree in between crosswords and the snooker, Jamie put his degree to good use, developing an admirable technique and ear for flamenco, accompanying dance classes and workshops in the Midlands alongside Ana Garcia and various visiting dancers.
Ana Garcia Ana Garcia :: Flamenco Dance Born in Valdepeñas, La Mancha (a very windy part of Spain where they're all a bit unhinged), Ana is one of the eminent flamenco dancers and teachers in the UK (just don't tell her she has a Brummie accent). She began her dance studies at an early age, attending classes at her local dance school, before taking exams in Classical Ballet and Spanish dance at Malaga's Conservatoire. Ana studied with some of the great names of Flamenco, such as Maria Magdalena, Ciro, Adrian Galia, Rafaela Carrasco, Belen Fernandez, Belen Maya and Eva La Yerbabuena in Madrid, Seville and Jerez. More recently, Ana has collaborated with leading European director Calixto Bieito as a choreographer for the play La Celestina; worked at Montpellier Opera House, France, choreographing the dance of Salome in a ground-breaking twin production of both the Strauss and Mariotte versions of the opera; and also spent several months working on further dance and choreography on operatic productions in Germany.
