The Arkansas Rehabilitation Services Central Office Employee of the Month for April is Alvin Hickey.Alvin works in the Information Systems Section of the Central Office as a Data Processing Manager/Windows NT Administrator.A native of Elaine, Arkansas, Alvin began his career with DHS in 1987 as a Mainframe Programmer.He later moved to Long Term Care as a Network Administrator and in the fall of last year, Alvin joined the ARS team.His job duties consist of managing the help desk, user support and programmers in the ISS Department.He is also in charge of all networking so if you have any problems, Alvin is the "man" you need to see about it.When asked why he came to ARS, he replied, "People here are friendlier and pretty easy to work with.I really enjoy my job and helping others."His co-workers stated, "Alvin is one of the most patient, easy going persons I know.He is willing to tackle any problem.He is here in the morning when I get to work and he's here in the afternoon when I leave.His dedication to this agency and to his work is admirable."Another adds, "Alvin is a wonderful teacher, always calm no matter what arises and he keeps me in line."Interests outside of work include playing tennis, martial arts and reading up on the newest computer technology and software.Alvin's interest in tennis is not just playing the game but teaching as well.He was a tennis pro and is a member of the United States Tennis Professional Association.He is still very active in tournaments on a state level.Alvin's ultimate dream would be the old millionaire's dream."Everyone wants to be a millionaire and I'm no exception," he replies with a smile, "but since I know that will probably not be the case, I would really like to design computer software some day."When asked what he would like to be remembered for when he left the agency, he stated, ", for kindness and a willingness to help people that I work with."
