The Lung Cancer Research Council was founded in 2013 by lung cancer patients who wanted to find a way to positively impact lung cancer survivorship. We are a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to promoting lung cancer screening and early detection in order to save lives. Every dollar donated goes to funding our mission. Our mission is to increase survival rates through early detection, and working with community partners and the public to encourage regular screenings for those at risk of developing lung cancer. This includes drawing attention to the lack of funding for lung cancer research compared to other types of cancers, sharing existing research and information about lung cancer, and raising funds for more research. Specifically, we hope to become the authority on lung cancer screening research and developing new technologies for screening. Run entirely by volunteers, we hold the annual SW Florida Lung Cancer 5k Run/Walk in Port Charlotte, Florida each November, and the Celebrate Life Social to cancer survivors. These events raise awareness about the importance of screening and early detection and funds for research, special programs and community education and outreach efforts.
