Who is The Intensive Care Society of Ireland

The Intensive Care Society of Ireland is committed to the development and maintenance of standards and practice in the specialty of Intensive Care Medicine. It was founded in 1987 and currently has over 200 members. The membership is broad-based comprising Doctors involved in intensive care practice including anaesthetists, physicians, surgeons and microbiologists. The Society is governed by Council. It is a constituent member of the Irish Board of Intensive Care Medicine (IBICM). It is an All-Ireland cross-border Society. The Society has formal links with the Irish Association of Critical Care Nurses (IACCN). The Society also has formal links with the Intensive Care Society (UK), is associated with European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), is affiliated to the World Federation of Societies of Critical and Intensive Care Medicine and has links with Northern Ireland Intensive Care Society (NIICS) and Scottish Intensive Care Society (SICS). It publishes and provides advice to statutory and other bodies on topics related to Intensive Care. The Society holds one international annual scientific meeting and several supplementary meetings including one in the provinces and in addition, it runs two educational refresher courses for staff working in Intensive Care. The Society also holds an annual intensive care basic medical skills course (Fundamental Critical Care Skills FCCS Course under the auspices of Society of Critical Care Medicine US). Membership of the ICSI is 100 per year for Consultants and 50 for all others.
