Who is The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska
Challenger Learning Center of Alaska (CLCA) is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in operation since April 2000. Located in Kenai, Alaska; CLCA is the thirty-ninth of fifty-two centers in the Challenger Learning Center for Space Science Education international network, a program created in 1986 by the families of the astronauts lost in the Challenger 51-L mission. CLCA was created to meet the educational needs of students throughout Alaska. Using simulated space and earth science missions, distance education and hands-on workshops, the CLCA inspires youth to develop an interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and to consider careers in these fields. Using space and earth sciences as a medium, participants work in an environment that spans the academic areas while learning valuable skills in problem solving, communication and teamwork. The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska is a vital and valuable educational resource for our state and is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of academic excellence. CLCA is in a position to be the leading resource in STEM education for Alaska's educators and home school organizations with comprehensive curriculum aligned with state standards and grade level expectations, combined with trainings, reference materials and classroom support.Read more
