Who is The Canadian Outrigger Racing Association
"Most of you will know by now that the Canadian Outrigger Racing Association (CORA) is committed to continuing education, instruction, and coaching for Canadian outrigger paddlers of all ages and abilities. The goal here is simple: to increase the number of outrigger paddlers taking part in outrigger competitions in Canada and abroad, and to improve the calibre of our athletes. In an effort to follow up on already established programs like the annual Coach the Coaches Clinic, and communication tools like our CORA website, a proposal has been made that we expand on an already successful theme. I am talking about a Mentor Program. The basic idea is that every outrigger paddler in need of information on any topic can contact someone in Canadian outrigger through our website who is knowledgeable in the field . So, for example, if you need some advice on how to rig a canoe, you simply go the Mentor page, identify which volunteer Mentor can give advice in that area, and contact him or her in the manner the Mentor suggests. The Mentor program will become a permanent part of the existing website. There will either be a page of our website dedicated to Mentor links, or the links will be added to our already existing "Resources" page. It is suggested that each Mentor will provide either an email address or telephone number or both so that the way you contact the Mentor is at your fingertips. In order for this to work, we need volunteer Mentors. We also need a comprehensive list of topics for which a Mentor will be available to give advice. Here is where you, the individual members, come in. I am asking everyone out there to give consideration to what topics they would like to see covered by our Mentor Program, and to the person or persons who have expertise in the area.
