The SGP speaks for and represents the views of General and Family Practice in BC at all levels of medical politics. The SGP Board is made up of practicing physicians who are elected from districts across BC, as well as representatives from the BCMA, the BC College of Family Physicians and PAR-BC. The SGP is the Section of General Practice at the B.C. Medical Association and represents the interests of all General and Family Practitioners. The SGP has two members appointed to the GP Services Committee (GPSC), a joint BCMA/SGP/Ministry of Health committee. What does the SGP do for me? The SGP advocates strongly for the pivotal role of the General and Family Physician in the delivery of Primary Care. The SGP negotiates for improved funding through the GP Subsidiary Negotiations Committee. The SGP develops proposals to appropriately remunerate the work done by General and Family Practitioners. These proposals are used to allocate negotiated funds, both at the GPSC and directly to the GP fee schedule. The SGP provides tools to improve your practice. Some of these are the SGP Uninsured Services Billing Package and billing modules, available on the members' side of the website. Why Join the SGP? To have your voice heard both individually and collectively. To advocate for the needs of General and Family Practice, within the BCMA and with the government. To develop a common vision with creative solutions to the crisis in general practice. To fight for fair remuneration for the work General and Family Practitioners do. To ensure the viability of family practice: for our patients, ourselves and future family doctors. To access information on the members only side of the SGP website.
