Who is Simply Ieva
IM SO GLAD YOU STOPPED BY! NOWLETS GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER! I was born in Lithuania and lived there for the bigger part of my life enjoying myself w ithout any plans to move to any other place in the world. Until my now-husband stormed into my life and changed everything! I have lived in the U.S. for about 16 years now and I am still discovering it every day I started learning English when I was in 5th grade and it quickly became one of my favorite subjects. Then, at 15, I won a national English-language competition and 6 months of living and studying in the United States. In hindsight, I think that experience shaped the course of my life. I was deposited in a developed Western country from a tiny Baltic state recovering from Soviet PTSD. The culture shock was indescribable and the learning experience priceless. And it pretty much sealed the relationship between little Ieva and the English language for life. I have since gotten my BA in English and Literature and a Masters in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Still, every time a new kid enters the school I work at, I always remember the feeling I had when I was 16 and and in the U.S.A. totally overwhelmed but deep down knowing that I can do it, only without a clue how and the hope that the teachers will be there to help me navigate. Maybe thats why I am super passionate about teaching English learners. Ive had the experience of being on both sides of the table (classroom, if you will) as an EFL/ESL student and now an ESL teacher. I have tremendous empathy for and connection with my students, likely because I know exactly what they are going through. At the same time, I see so many ESL teachers who feel completely overwhelmed with everything they have to do and not enough support. I see ESL teachers who teach mixed proficiency classes, and beat themselves up for not being able to reach all the students.
