POP is dedicated to meeting the professional and economic needs of independent, private practice ODs. The organization offers personalized, specific and timely responses to member requests for information and advice through interaction with our consultants as well as offering the discount advantages of a buying group for products and services used by independent private practice ODs. Does POP replace organized optometry? No... but POP will actively move into areas that the AOA and State organizations are unable or unwilling to tackle. There is no intention to become involved in either State or National political lobbying efforts. POP can, however, through its consultants and preferred partners, offer the private practitioner: Legal consultation and direction in resolving issues impacting their practice Access to lenders for practice purchase and expansion Discounts on practice management consulting, software & ophthalmic goods, financial and estate planning services Must an OD be an independent private practitioner to become a POP member? No! All ODs (and optometry students) are welcome to apply for membership, however, POP is dedicated to supporting the interests of the independent private practitioner and those who wish to establish a private practice. Selected individuals who are not in private practice but believe in the POP mission are also eligible for Professional Membership. Examples are educators, those in research, employed by a government agency, acting as an optometric consultant, executive ODs in the ophthalmic industry, and retired ODs. Students who contemplate going into private practice are encouraged to join POP as a POP Professional Member during their fourth year or residency to network and prepare them for the transition to practice. Students in their first three years of optometry school are encouraged to join as POP Buying Group Associates. Even as students, you can receive deep discounts on such items as computer hardware and office supplies. These discounts can more than cover the cost of the yearly membership. Why should Optometry students join POP? In additional to networking with POP ODs, our classified ad section as well as the Eye Grads Inc. source for loans can be invaluable in allowing students to be on the road to independent private practice upon graduation. How much does a membership cost? Membership is available on an individual basis. Current membership fees can be found here. Your username and password are not transferable. This is to ensure privacy and security for all POP members. How do I apply for membership? Click the Joining POP link and fill out the online membership form. Please be as complete as possible. You must use a credit card when filling out the application, office checks are not accepted. The transaction is securely processed via the POP web site. Can my entire office share a single POP account? No; POP memberships are for individuals. Sharing your account (and your account's password) is forbidden. I've got more questions! Can I contact POP staff?
