Who is National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
"Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you." We invite you to become acquainted with us! Are you looking for a way to honor a patriot ancestor? Would you like to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism? If so, we are an organization you may be interested in learning more about. The DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical womans volunteer service organization. Any woman eighteen years and older regardless of religion, color, or race who can trace her ancestry to a participant in the American Revolutionary War is welcome to join our membership. The genealogical search is usually rewarding but sometimes challenging; if this is something you might need assistance with, we have several trained volunteer genealogists in the NY State Organization to help you. Please contact your nearest chapter to start the process. To do so, please click on the Become a Member link. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is over 125 years old; it was founded in 1890 by forward looking Daughters who based the organization on the promotion of historic preservation, education, and patriotism. The Society has grown to a membership of 175,000 with nearly 3,000 chapters in 50 states and in several foreign countries. The NY State Organization is over 115 years old having been established in 1896. Today, the NY State Organization has nearly 7,000 members with 126 chapters. There are many committees from which members choose to do the work of the Society; literally there is something for everyones interest. To name a few examples, the Daughters are engaged in their communities conducting American History contests, awarding scholarships to youth, supporting veterans in local Veterans Hospitals, sponsoring naturalization ceremonies, and helping to preserve historical sites.
