Who is La Salle Academy

La Salle Academy is a Catholic college-preparatory high school with a rich history, a vibrant present, and a promising future. Since its founding i n 1848, La Salle provides educational, spiritual and athletic opportunities to young men. La Salle is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and has been recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the United States Department of Education. In association with their colleagues, the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Christian Brothers, conduct schools and educational apostolates around the world. La Salle is part of this international network of Lasallian schools and is enriched by it. Serving together for more than 174 years in New York City, the Brothers and their partners in mission have been providing a human and Christian education for the young, especially the poor a charge issued to them by Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the founder of the order in the late seventeenth century. When it opened, La Salle Academy was an urban presence serving immigrants and the sons of immigrants. Faithful to its heritage, that tradition continues as a culturally diverse student body represents young men whose parents hail from more than four dozen homelands. La Salle Academy, with an enrollment of 245 students, cultivates a community atmosphere. There are small classes and big opportunities. Leadership skills are honed and service of others is expected and valued. A competent and caring faculty, 81% of whom possess a masters degree or higher, vary their pedagogy and use the tools technology provides to enhance their instruction.
