Who is India Association of Minnesota

The India Association of Minnesota represents people with an interest in the culture and heritage of India to build a sense of cohesiveness within this community, represent the community to the population at large, and serve as the focal point for advancing the education, cultural, and charitable interests of the community. India being a land of diverse cultures, the Indian community here being a microcosm of the same great land is a plethora of cultures, traditions, customs and languages. Although most of the ethnic, religious and language groups have their own associations and clubs, there is no representative body for the Indian community as a whole. IAM seeks to fill this void and take up this responsibility of representing the Indian community as a whole, to the society at large, with the help and support of the various ethnic groups. IAM also serves as the link between these groups. To realize our mission and vision, IAM is involved in the following activities: Articulate our values and heritage to ourselves and our succeeding generations Establish strong relationships with other Asia-Pacific organizations Raise the visibility of the community in the news media, in matters of public policy, in academic institutions and in businesses in Minnesota and the rest of the country. Maintain relationships with organizations of similar interests in other parts of USA Sponsor and conduct community service activities in Minnesota Sponsor and support activities for charitable purposes in India Educate the broader community about India's diverse cultural values and heritage Contribute to the broader understanding and appreciation of multiculturalism and diversity Work towards establishing an India Center in Minnesota Provide a forum where members of the community will enjoy coming together Encourage and support the activities of sister organizations promoting youth education, women issues, and the interests of the elderly (such as SILC, AIWA, 55Plus groups) Demonstrate the community's good citizenship and commitment ...Read more
