We are the Humane Society of St. Clair County SNAP . SNAP stands for Spay, Neuter, Adopt and Protect, which is our mission. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization; we rely on public donations to allow us to maintain our goals and mission. HSSCC/SNAP has developed out of a community wide need to help keep an unwanted animal population under contro... l. With this in mind, all volunteers helped build our beautiful facility, where we offer affordable spay/neuter services to the public. We also operate a foster-based rescue program, finding wonderful homes for unwanted and homeless pets. In 2007 A non profit 501(c)3 organization was formed: SCC SNAP. All of those were volunteers. We raised money to purchase equipment, medications and supplies so we could create a surgery room in the county shelter to perform spay/neuter on adoptable animals and work to improve the lives of those animals entering our SCC Animal shelter. The need for this was great. The intake and euthanasia rates were deplorable. In September 2010 reorganization and name change took place. We became the Humane Society of St. Clair County SNAP (Spay, Neuter, Adopt, Protect) In May of 2011 a building location was acquired due to a very generous donation from Dorothea Knight, an animal lover and respected resident of St. Clair County. With a dedicated force of community volunteers, fundraising and a lot of hard physical work, our spay/neuter clinic was completed in March of 2013. The mission of the Humane Society of St. Clair County SNAP is to work towards a solution to end the number of homeless and unwanted pets entering our shelters each year. We do this by offering affordable spay and neuter surgery services to the community. We also achieve this by offering a Rescue and Adoption program that is foster based operating with no kill practices.
