Helmsing Consulting is a Regina-based company specializing in intellectual, academic, behavioural, and vocational assessments for children, adolesc ents, and adults. Owner, Joan Helmsing, B.Ed., M.Ed., R.Psych. has been a classroom teacher, a special education teacher and is a registered educational psychologist. Assessments may identify academic learning disabilities, cognitive disabilities, attention deficits and/or other disorders which can interfere with the development of a clients potential in school, at work and in life. Utilizing standardized tests, checklists and informal questionnaires cognitive, academic, and vocational strengths and weaknesses can be identified, and coping strategies and accommodations can be recommended. Referrals may also be made to other professionals for further investigation, diagnosis, and treatment. A behavioural assessment is $600. It screens for ADHD, depression, anxiety, and other issues which may be hindering a client from being successful. Reassessment after treatment is included. A psycho-educational assessment includes a behavioural assessment and is $1,800. In addition to screening for behavioural issues, it assesses cognitive, oral language and achievement levels. A post-conference is provided with the psycho-educational assessment. Other assessments are available upon request at a fee of $150/hr. In association with Joshua Tree Learning Centre, Joan provides private individual tutorial sessions for children, adolescents, and adults. She also oversees the Fast ForWord Program. Based on neuroplasticity Fast ForWord is a home-based program which uses computer tasks to help develop listening, memory, and phonics skills.
