M.E. is a debilitating disease characterised by severe, disabling fatigue and post-exertional malaise. Sometimes referred to as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome (PVFS), M.E. is estimated to affect 250,000 people in the UK. 90% of people with M.E. are forced to reduce or stop work because of their illness and the worst affected 25% are housebound. There is currently no known cure or diagnostic test for M.E although complete or partial recovery is possible.
