CLI strives to make the process of getting into volunteer environmental monitoring easy for anyone who is interested. There are trained personnel who train and mentor individuals in the community who desire to receive training in environmental studies. Teachers in local colleges, universities, and public schools get students involved in a long term commitment to environmental research. Assistance is available for setting goals and establishing a program that suits the needs of teachers, students, and CLI's partnership in the Texas Watch Program. Basic equipment is supplied and a support system is in place to help keep the equipment in good order. A calendar is set each year for suggested monitoring dates. On these monitoring days training sessions for new participants are often held in conjunction with the regular water quality monitoring tasks. A quality assurance plan is also in place to help maintain the integrity of the data generated. The data collected by the volunteers of CLI are disseminated throughout the CLI network. Community volunteers and teachers and their students from local and area schools and colleges associated with CLI monitor sites on Caddo Lake and other sites in the watershed above the lake, including constructed wetlands on school campuses. Each school group has its own program for monitoring; however, the training and data management is coordinated through a central campus, and the data are relayed to the Texas Watch Program of which CLI is a full partner. CLI was named Lead Partner in the Texas Watch Program for 1996.
