Description:

Square D Ranch is nestled in the beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the heart of California's scenic gold country. The ranch was first established in 1861 by the Schwartz Brothers, German dairy farmers who emigrated to the area in the mid 1800's. The barn that is now used to house the Square D Ranch horses was built in the 1 880's as a dairy barn. After the turn of the century, the original ranch site was purchased by the Ghadotti family, owners at that time of the Idaho Maryland mine, the largest producing gold mine in Nevada Gold County. Lou and Lani DeVincentis purchased the portion of the ranch that became the Square D from the estate of Mrs. Marion Ghadotti in 1986 and commenced to make it a first class breeding and training facility. The old dairy barn has been completely remodeled with state of the art stall inserts, foaling pens and an indoor wash rack. Our facilities include fenced and cross fenced pastures, a 60 foot round pen, a 100 X 260 outdoor arena and a 100 X 125 covered arena. Visitors are always welcome at the ranch and are especially encouraged in the springtime when mares and foals laze in the pastures enjoying lush grass and warm sunshine.
