Description:

RAM Fabricating was formed by two former Carrier engineers and a Syracuse , NY businessman. The purpose of the business is to provide OEM's with tubular metal parts and tubular assemblies. RAM provides these type parts primarily to the air conditioning and refrigeration industry, with smaller segments of business in the automotive and consumer products areas. RAM was incorporated in New York State on December 16, 1975. The business started the following January (1976) in a two car garage in Manlius , N.Y. The three principal owners were David Redding, Richard Abell, and Gerald Menter (RAM). Carlyle Compressor Division of Carrier Corporation in Syracuse , N.Y. was the initial customer and remains an important customer to this day. In late 1976 the company moved to approximately 3000 square foot of rented manufacturing space in Manlius. In 1978 David Redding left to start another venture and his share of the business was purchased by the company to be held as treasury stock. The customer base expanded during 1978-79 and in August, 1979 the company moved to its current location which is a 15,000 square foot manufacturing building in Syracuse , N.Y. There was moderate sales growth until the late 1980's when a large portion of Carlyle Compressor ceased operation. In 1990 the company established an ESOP and the ESOP trust purchased the shares of Gerald Menter through an ESOP loan. The time from 1990 to 1996 were years of substantial growth. To support continued growth, RAM established a second manufacturing facility in Athens , Tennessee . The plant was operational June of 1996. On January 31, 2002, the Athens , Tennessee plant was closed from loss of its largest customer, Americold Compressor who ceased their operations at that time. RAM then consolidated its manufacturing into its Syracuse , New York facility as a result. The restructure was handled by Harry McLain, who had been with the firm since 1995.
