Description:

Colonial Candlecrafters began as a hobby on top of a kitchen stove in Lewisburg, Pa. Owned by Howard and Beverly Bird from 1972-1982, Colonial Candlecrafters established itself as the only "candle shop" in Central Pennsylvania. Retirement for the Birds came in 1982 when their daughter (who had worked in the candle shop since its inception) and son-in-law purchased the business. For the next 32 years, Pat and Greg Hess lived above the business and immersed themselves into entrepreneurial ownership. Turning a hobby into a healthy thriving business, they led Colonial Candlecrafters through two expansion projects, introduced several new product lines, sustained a strong internet presence, and became a destination shopping experience for tourists and local consumers alike. In the summer of 2014, several extenuating circumstances prompted the Hesses to make the difficult decision to dissolve Colonial Candlecrafters and move to Florida. They sold the property along Route 15, shut down the web site and held a retirement sale.
