Dr. Hua Wang is an environmental and resource economist who has conducted extensive research in the area of environmental economics and policy.His has conducted extensive pollution control analysis with a focus on China's pollution levy system, the behavior of both polluters and regulators, and China's TVIE (township and village industrial enterprises).
Dr. Wang has also done substantial work on the economic valuation of the environment and natural resources with research in Contingent Valuation Method (CVM).He proposed a stochastic theory of economic valuation and pioneered a stochastic payment card value elicitation approach.His empirical research with CVM includes willingness-to-pay studies for water quality improvement (Galveston Bay in Texas and Lake Sevan in Armenia), urban air quality improvement (Sofia, Bulgaria), and improving urban water supply and sanitation services (Philippine, Ivory Coast and Mozambique).
Finally, Dr. Wang has worked on optimation issues in environmental and resource management.He has constructed several mathematical programming models for matching demand and supply of water and sanitation services and for river basin water resource management.
Dr. Wang holds a Master's in Environmental Systems Engineering from Nanjing University, a Master's in Economics and a Ph.D. in Environmental Management and Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.Before he joined the World Bank's Development Research Group in July 1995, he taught in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Nanjing University for 8 years.He has published in the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, and speaks regularly on economics and policy issues to leading environmental organizations, including US EPA and China SEPA.Currently, Dr. Wang serves as the President of the Professional Association for China's Environment.
