Ogrean Accepts Post As USOC Deputy Executive Director for Marketing
(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - April 26, 1999) - USA Hockey Executive Director Dave Ogrean (Colorado Springs, Colo.) announced today that he is resigning as the organization's chief executive in order to accept the position of Deputy Executive Director for Marketing with the United States Olympic Committee.Ogrean is replacing U.S. Olympic Committee Deputy Secretary General and Managing Director, Business Affairs John Krimsky (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who is resigning after 13 years with the USOC to become President and Chief Executive Officer of Relationship Management Programs, Inc.
Ogrean will remain with USA Hockey through June 4 before beginning his new assignment with the U.S. Olympic Committee.A search committee will be appointed shortly to oversee the process of selecting USA Hockey's next Executive Director.

Ogrean's leadership and vision have also led to the establishment of USA Hockey's official inline hockey program, USA Hockey InLine; the creation of the first-ever full-time national training program for America's premier ice hockey players under the age of 18, the USA Hockey National Team Development Program; the construction of a new, 26,000-square-foot national headquarters building in Colorado Springs; and the cultivation of a larger and more stable family of corporate partners than ever before, including such prominent Olympic sponsors as General Motors, Texaco and Visa.
Prior to being named Executive Director of USA Hockey, Ogrean served as the first Director of Broadcasting for the United States Olympic Committee, a post he held from 1990-93.While with the USOC, Ogrean was responsible for the administration and development of the U.S. Olympic Properties broadcast program for National Governing Bodies within the U.S. Olympic movement.He negotiated and administered broadcast agreements for coverage of U.S. Olympic Trials and U.S. Olympic Festivals and also supervised the sale of broadcast sponsorship packages.In addition, Ogrean served as the USOC liaison to American broadcast networks for their coverage of the Olympic and Pan American Games.
Before joining the U.S. Olympic Committee, Ogrean was the Assistant Executive Director for Television for the College Football Association, administering the CFA's relationships with CBS Sports and ESPN and packaging the production of CBS' college football telecasts.
From 1983-88, Ogrean served as Program Manager for ESPN, where he was responsible for the acquisition of programming in various categories, as well as the negotiation of contracts and the administration of agreements with entities such as the CFA, NCAA and NHL.He began his association with ESPN in 1980 in corporate communications.
Ogrean launched his professional career in 1978 as the Director of Public Relations for the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States - now known as USA Hockey.
In addition to directing the day-to-day operations of USA Hockey, Ogrean has been a member of numerous councils and committees.He served as Chairman of the USOC Legislation Committee and was a member of the USOC Constitutional Review Task Force, the USOC Athlete Performance Group and the International Ice Hockey Federation Marketing Committee.In 1996, Ogrean served as President of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation.He has appeared on The Sporting News' list of the 100 most powerful people in sports for six consecutive years.
Ogrean received a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut in 1974 before earning a master's degree from Boston University in 1978.He and his wife, Maryellen, have resided in Colorado Springs since 1990 are the parents of one son and two daughters: Matt, Tracy and Dana.
