Kerr has coached both in England and in the U.S. at the youth, high school, collegiate and professional levels. With his college season starting up, Kerr took time out of his hectic schedule to sit down and talk to USSoccerPlayers about the difference in coaching college players to professionals, what kind of coach the U.S. needs and his experiences with the national team.
USSoccerPlayers: How do you prepare you team during preseason?
Kerr: We only have eight days of preseason in the Ivy League.
...
Kerr: We are going to be young, but pretty good in the attack. We have some good young players that are here already; there are sophomores and we have a really good freshmen class, so it's very attack-minded.I'm very excited about it, but we are also going to try to deplete our goals-against-average.
USSoccerPlayers: How has Major League Soccer affected the college game?
Kerr: It gives the college players a place to aim for after they go through their careers in college.
...
Kerr: Well, that it hasn't happened to me, and I doubt it will with a school like Harvard. You're probably going try and finish up your degree.
...
Kerr: The game is the same.
...
Kerr: It was fantastic.
...
Kerr: Every player now is really improved in every facet of the game.
...
Kerr: A coach that really understands the American mentality.
...
Kerr: I still like to watch my old friend Kasey Keller playing in goal.
