    Dr. Gary Zuk

    Gary Zuk, son of Marian and the late Leo Zuk, passed away on September 5, 2004.Born on March 12, 1950, in Louisville, Kentucky, he graduated from Huntington High School, on Long Island, New York, in 1968.Dr. Zuk attended the Citadel, then went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Canisius College, a master's degree from the University of South Florida, and a Ph.D. in political science from Florida State University.Dr. Zuk served with distinction on the faculties of Virginia Tech, University of South Florida, and most recently, Auburn University, where he rose to the rank of professor.

    Dr. Zuk was known nationally and internationally for his research on national security policy.For the past 15 years, he has been conducting research on the federal judiciary, the findings of which have been presented at conferences on three continents.This research was supported, in part, by the National Science Foundation.In 1997, he was a Fellow at the International Institute for the Sociology of Law in Onati, Spain.Dr. Zuk was the author or coauthor of four books: "Economic Development and Political Change" (1989), "Controversies in Political Economy" (1992), "The Federal Judiciary and Institutional Change" (1996), and "The Institutional History of the United States District Courts" (2004).His scholarship was featured in the most prominent journals in the political science profession, including: "American Political Science Review," "American Journal of Political Science," "Judicature," "American Law and Economics Review," "Governance," "European Journal of Political Economy" and "International Studies Quarterly."

    Dr. Zuk taught a wide range of courses in the Political Science Department, won numerous awards for teaching excellence, and was beloved by his students and collegues.His service to the University was extensive.He chaired the committee charged with implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act, and was instrumental in developing the social science component of the University's core curriculum.He was a faculty moderator to the Model UN and other organizations.

    Dr. Zuk above all else was a loving and caring husband and proud father.
