Objections: Some who were shown the letter over the past week said they refused to sign it.

Zimmerman added: "Over the last five years, my mortgage payments have jumped $300 a month due to the escalating property taxes.As a senior citizen who has to pay for expensive medications, I am struggling to pay these high property taxes.If our government doesn't do anything about this problem, many seniors, including myself, will be taxed right out of their home at time when we should be enjoying our golden years."

A very active community volunteer, Zimmerman has been an anti-drug activist for 19 years.She works for the YWCA of York as a community mobilizer and is involved with the York City Police Department's community policing.She lives in a 108-year-old house located in Reinecke Place, a historic area in York.

Jerri Zimmerman, a counselor for the YWCA's TREND program, took a group of 15 mostly black city youngsters for a weekend at the Y's camp.

Zimmerman and assistant counselor Marsha Jays said Friday night and Saturday morning the campers were stalked, accosted and attacked by a group of five white men.

The harassment started around 9:30 Friday when some of the children told Zimmerman they saw one man, then another, standing in the woods at the edge of a campfire site -- where Zimmerman was telling scary stories (little did she know).The men stood staring into beams of flashlights.When Zimmerman and Jays started yelling at the men, they disappeared into the darkness.

"We could hear them whispering, 'Here nigger, nigger, nigger,'" said Zimmerman.

What else can you call such a despicable incident other than terrorism?Anonymous perpetrators using violence and intimidation on innocent victims in the name of some hideously warped cause.

What happened last weekend at the Y camp differs only in scale and result from the Sept. 11 attacks on America.The incident was a manifestation of the same essential evil: hatred -- aka racism, white or black supremacism, religious zealotry and various other aliases.
