"The hot dog is the entrée, if you want to call it that," said Jeremy Zimmerman, concession manager for Ovations Food Services, the caterer for the Space Coast Stadium during Washington Nationals spring training and Brevard Manatees games.

Zimmerman said he thinks kids stick to one or two items at baseball games.

"They haven't spread their wings yet."Zimmerman joked.

"The menu hasn't changed significantly from last year," Zimmerman said. There are, however, a couple of new additions: Kosher dogs and cracker jacks.

Even with cracker jacks now in the running for best baseball snack, Zimmerman said peanuts are the all-time favorite.

With new additions and high demand for a wide variety of foods, Zimmerman said, six portable food locations were added to the stadium this year to supplement the four fixed stands they've always had.

Also new to the Space Coast Stadium are theme days for each game, and on some of the days, special food will be served.Tuesday's theme, for example, was "Taste of Florida," and some of the state's best fish was served on sandwiches.Next Monday's will be "Hispanic Heritage Day," and fans can expect to get a taste of selected Hispanic food, Zimmerman said.

    A labor of love

No matter what you consume at the stadium, a lot of work goes into it.Zimmerman estimates anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 hot dogs are prepared for a typical game, and they're all made fresh.

"You won't get a wrapped hot dog," Zimmerman said.
