Recall last month's entry on the world's loss of Trent Zeigen.
    ...
In keeping with the congregation's respect, Trent's remains were cremated and as there were no provisions as to where they were to be interred, the urn holding his ashes rests on a ledge at St. Paul's near the vintage pipe organ that he played at church services, a fitting testament to his memory. The medical report revealed that he had suffered a heart attack (while in the hospital).Additionally there was evidence of throat cancer that had of late affected his ability to speak, hepatitis B, kidney failure and that he was HIV positive. He had also recently suffered a bout of shingles. In his will Trent designated that Jay inherit his Roland digital piano, a beautiful piece of furniture-encased music gear that served as the vehicle whereby Trent had reacquainted himself to a craft temporarily abandoned for a time near the end of his sojourn in Pacifica, CA.

Little Hans/OHO/Dark Side/Food for Worms/Blammo keyboardist and madcap, Mark O'Connor, phoned delivering the sad news that our Little Hans band mate, Trent Zeigen, died suddenly on March 5th.

Trent, who in 2004 had moved to and at the time of his passing lived in a rural area of upstate New York, was most recently organist and choir director at St. Paul's Episcopal Church near LaFargeville. We last heard from Trent at Yuletide '06 when he presented a cassette of his performances of sacred/obscure organ music he discovered in the church music library, motivating him to perform, record and share this music with his friends. His accompanying letter was very positive and one sensed his relationship with this music in his capacities as church organist & choir director were how Trent connected with and nourished the spiritual dimension of his life.Trent's passing mark's the end of a 35+ year relationship. He always managed to stay in touch whether from NY, Pacifica, CA or calling on us during his random visits to B-more.Beginning with Little Hans in 1971, Trent was still contributing to our music at the time of his death. His arrangements of sections of OHO's "Scared Money" and "Till Death Do Us Part" (from UP) and his contributions to "Burning Grey," "Time," and "Moon Draw Your Curtain," (forthcoming on Bricolage) are creative and zesty sonic accoutrements that make the mixes sparkle. We only wish the current technology had allowed us to use more of his ideas.Farewell & thanks. We were enriched in so many ways through your acquaintance. (Read Trent's own commentary on his time as a member of Little Hans.Go to the OHO Story and click on the Little Hans hyperlink. Also available gratis via the home page by clicking on the OHO logo, one may listen to and/or download wav files of "Wunderkind," including all of that band's recorded music featuring Trent's colorful, progressive keyboard work and his stylistic singing.)

At Blue Ball: David and Jay are deep into "Time" and have successfully incorporated a bevy of sound bytes from Trent Zeigen's beautiful arrangement of the same.
