"At Medical Databases, we prefer to design, deploy, and support software on the Macintosh," says Zeigen."And from our customers' standpoint, the Mac is so much easier to use and more reliable that everyone in the medical office or optical shop is far more productive."

As one of their best customers, Dr. Scott Zeigen frequently refers patients to Optik Eyewear from his ophthalmic practice. He also was Optik Eyewear's answer to the need for a more automated practice.Dr. Zeigen saw an opportunity to apply his experience in developing his FileMaker Pro-based medical office management software, called PracticeMaker®, to the optical shop environment.
Dr. Zeigen developed Optical Shop, a comprehensive office management system for opticians based on FileMaker Pro software.Optik Eyewear became his first customer for the new software.Today, Optik Eyewear uses Optical Shop to automate all of its core business processes. As clients try on frames, opticians activate an iRez Critter camera by pushing a button in Optical Shop software.Clients view the pictures of themselves on an iBook.Once the client selects the frames they like best based on these photos, Optical Shop software assists in matching frames to lenses by showing available lens and frame sizes, colors, and specifications. When frames, lenses, and accessories are selected, Optical Shop automatically makes the proper calculations to ensure that the order is correct based on the client's prescription. When the optician is ready, outstanding orders are faxed to the correct lab or distributor.
