Within an hour and a half it went from what Grand Rapids Mayor Susan Zeige called an "extremely disappointing" situation to one that may benefit the city, the county, and the Star of the North Humane Society.During a meeting of the Joint Board of the Animal Control Facility on Wednesday everyone around the table at the Itasca County Courthouse, whether representing the city of Grand Rapids, Itasca County or the Star of the North Humane Society believed that something needs to be done about a new animal control facility in the county."We have a problem and something needs to happen," said Mayor Susan Zeige.

The joint powers board, which consists of Mayor Susan Zeige, Councilman Todd Driscoll, Commissioner Catherine McLynn and Commissioner Rusty Eichorn, directed County Attorney Jack Muhar to draft a potential contract for services between the joint powers board and the Star of the North.
