   Andrea Zeifman - Decorative Arts Specialist, Fashion Specialist Andrea was educated at the University of Toronto, obtaining her B.A. Honours in Art History.She oversees the Continental glass, ceramics and silver department as well as the Vintage Fashion and Costume Jewellery department at Ritchies.Andrea is also an auctioneer with the company.

   In the foyer I am immediately warmed by the rich wood floors, the smell of antiques and the welcoming of Andrea Zeifman, the fashion director at Ritchies.As the vintage jewelry portion of the auction had already begun, Andrea ushered me into a back room full of white sheet cocoons protecting the treasures underneath.Tucked away from the cacophony of the auction, Andrea described her process of putting together a fashion collection, which Ritchies actions about twice a year.

   In December 2007, Andrea was invited into Marie's Rosedale home to go hunting.
   
   "My clients are looking for retro wearable pieces, usually for cocktail parties and special events," she says.Big name labels are important, but when Andrea rummages she is really looking for great designs.Using trends as her instinct, Andrea knows a Dolce and Gabbana mini dress from the 60s will go a lot farther than a boxy suit from the 80s.In this session Dior, Chloé, André Laug and Valentino are the hot ticket items, with nothing starting over $700.00."We are really considered wholesale," Andrea proudly states, while I was thinking how maybe I could afford the white Gucci clutch I read about on my way in. Andrea's personal favourite is a black André Laug chiffon dress decorated with gold dots.To bid on this and the other fabulous finds you didn't need to face the elements and attend the auction.Phone and eBay bids were simultaneously taking place, more convenient, yet upping the competition.Leaving Andrea to prepare for the couture auction, my photographer and I snuck to the back of the room among old varnished furniture that had been pushed aside and listened.
