My heart is filled with gratitude and pride in the wonderful way you opened your arms and your hearts to my request for help with our former exchange student, Birgit Zehetmeyer.I shared the story of the generosity of your club with my own club members today.Immediately upon my phone call to your President Joe, the "Wheels of Welcome" were put into motion for Birgit. We can only imagine how frightening it must have been for her to have to evacuate New Orleans after having been settled in her new home for the semester for only 5 days. She traveled with 11 other exchange students in a van from New Orleans to Fort Worth before they were able to find accommodations to even sleep.Fortunately I found her via email, and in just 24 hours was able to get her to Denver to reunite with our family. She arrived with only a backpack and shattered nerves! She was concerned about her belongings [all lost], her academic future at Tulane, her visa, etc., etc., etc.The University of Vienna worked closed with Tulane and Birgit was offered the opportunity to study at Bentley. However, we were unsure that her visa would transfer, and Bentley told us that there were no accommodations available on campus.I told Birgit not to worry, that the family of Rotary would help get her situated, and began my attempts at contacting your club.

Birgit is a very special young woman, and I hope you will get to know her throughout the semester.Perhaps I shall visit her and your club sometime this semester myself.Thank you again and again.
