David Zaval In 1998 we again look for the YEF support in the 1998 fundraiser, the Magic Raffle, as we continue to grow our Young Executive Scholarship Fund. Look for details pertaining to the Magic Raffle in early January 1998.
Roundtable Rap Session Our membership was indeed well represented in Nashville during the Spring Conference. On May 4, over 50 YEF members attended our second roundtable rap session, discussing timely issues impacting our work. Given time constraints, we limited ourselves to three discussion topics : technology, sales and marketing, and YEF feedback.
After dividing into several small groups, we asked each to identify some recent successful experiences (WW - went well) and less than positive experience outcomes (DD - do differently).

David Zaval Machinery Systems, Inc Tooling Group Schaumburg, IL
Dave began his career at MSI in December of 1989 as a sales manager and is currently Vice President & General Manager. Dave is responsible for all Tooling Group and Metrology Division operations in all three MSI branches. Before MSI, Dave worked for Sandvik Coromant and Valenite in sales capacities, however, his roots are in manufacturing as he originally was a tool and mold maker in the Chicagoland area.
Dave, and his management staff, are all active members in I.D.A. and, where applicable, Y.E.F. In addition to his duties at MSI, Dave is a regular speaker at the Cast Metals Institute, Inc., an industry trade association for the metal casting industry. In his spare time, Dave enjoys spending time with his wife, Marianne, and their two children, Natalie and Geena. Dave also volunteers his time as a soccer coach for his daughter's team and is a member of a local parochial highschool board.
I truly enjoy my association with I.D.A. and the Young Executive Forum. I am a firm believer in the old adage you always receive more in return than you give. I.D.A. and, more particularly, YEF have reinforced my beliefs. I have been involved in I.D.A. since I first entered the distribution industry in 1989. It has been an exceptional vehicle for creating closer relationships with my suppliers, however, the relationships I have fostered through YEF with my industry peers has frankly exceeded all expectations.
Most of us in this industry, due to the nature of our businesses (usually smaller), become so absorbed by the business and the many hats we all wear, that ideas and new thinking become stagnant.
